What I Love About Lagos

I love the vibrancy of, and diversity among Lagosians – Lagos is a melting pot of all sorts. Most memorable experience in Lagos – my first day at work 10 years ago, when I arrived in my suit & briefcase (thanks to my mum who said I should dress like a manager); I was so embarrassed, but it turned out to be the start of a beautiful and blessed career! Also, the great social life – weekly owambe weddings, birthdays and other social functions – is another thing I love and miss the most about Lagos.

Lagos has made me more extroverted because I’m forever meeting people and relying on relationships to get things done. Being a Lagosian has taught me to be assertive, as in the instance where I convinced a LASTMA official who caught me using my phone while driving to take my number rather than impound my car because he would need me 1 day, and yet submissive, as in the instance where you have to fuel the ego of people in authority to get what you need. That being said, something that needs to be rectified is the way with which most Lagosians drive, best described as “bumper to bumper”; it is simply insane out there!

I’ve been away for almost 2 years now and I miss the craziness of Lagos…Lagos is a place of struggle, stress, fun and love and one never needs to go far to find it or feel any of those things..
