I’m a professional athlete for Nigeria and officially Nigeria’s fastest man 3 years in a row. I started running in high school, competing during every inter-house sport competition and from there I knew running was my calling. There was a bit of opposition from my parents initially because as you know every parent wants their child to be a doctor or an engineer but that didn’t stop me from doing what I wanted. However I knew education was very important and as a result decided to get a degree in law and politics. Being a professional athlete was tough at the beginning as I received no encouragement whatsoever, but with self-drive, hard work and determination I made use of my God given talent to get to where I am today. I guess it was all worth it as I got to represent Nigeria at the Olympic Games in Rio Brazil in 2016 which is my greatest achievement till date.
I attended Atlantic Hall Epe and I remember the rivalry amongst students being rather intense during inter-house sports. It was a do-or-die affair as every teacher wanted their house to emerge victorious. It really felt like the Olympic games of our lives at the time. Now as an adult I wondered why there was so much rivalry amongst us. As time went by I figured out it played a major role in my career, as getting exposed to that level of rivalry at that age prepared me unknowingly for what I was to expect as a professional athlete. For that I’m thankful to Lagos
