I had aspirations of being a professional footballer. I used to play a lot of football during my teenage years and I was very good at it. I was given the nickname Piero after the famous footballer Alessandro Del Pierro as I could play any position on the field. I dreamt of playing for Nigeria at world tournaments and of course making a lot of money from it. So after secondary school I left home and started playing in small leagues all over the country but unfortunately I had an injury which brought those dreams to an abrupt end. During one of the friendly matches I broke my right leg and got hit in the eye. I had a cast on for 6 months and suffered permanent damage to my left eye.
Till now I can only see properly with my right eye. Though after the accident I was told to play basketball instead since I’m 6’ 4” but I didn’t enjoy it as much as I did football. Coming to terms with the fact that my football career had come to an unfortunate end, I decided to go back to school. I wrote Jamb and attended the Lagos state polytechnic to study insurance. Till now I still think about what my life could have been like if I hadn’t broken my leg.
