Being a University Graduate at 53!

I made the decision to go back to school in late 2010 when I was tired of how stagnant my life and career were, due to the fact that I had just an OND. So I enrolled in a Bachelors course in Accounting for the 2011/2012 academic year at the University of Lagos (UNILAG). I must say it has been a very challenging couple of years, with the biggest challenge being finances. I was and currently am a civil servant at one of the local governments in Lagos which helped a bit in raising money for tuition fees. Also, I took out cooperative loans which I was able to pay back at the end of each year to help pay my way through the University. Now at the age of 53, I am a Graduate of Accounting from a very prestigious Nigerian University. I will be turning 54 years old next month and I must say, this feat of mine is an early birthday present to myself. My advice to everyone thinking of taking that life changing step is to take that course, burn the midnight oil, make the extra effort, do whatever you have to do to improve yourself and most importantly, never give up on yourself and trust me, you’ll thank yourself for it.
The only thing standing between you and your goal is YOURSELF.
